Most people only think about brushing and flossing when it comes to oral health, but your mouth is its own little ecosystem. It has a microbiome (just like your gut and skin) that needs balance and support. When your oral microbiome is thriving, it impacts so much more than just fresh breath, it helps protect your teeth from cavities, supports gum health, and even plays a role in digestion and systemic wellness.
Mouth taping gets a lot of attention (and I love it), but it’s not the only way I care for my teeth and mouth.
I’m going to walk you through my entire oral care routine, step by step, with an emphasis on oral microbiome support and remineralization, because yes, your teeth can heal. At my most recent dentist visit, both Rosie and I were told there were no concerns for the first time in a long while. That was such a sweet reminder that the daily habits we’ve committed to are truly making a difference.

First, do you know if you have a healthy oral microbiome?
Signs your oral microbiome might be struggling
Your mouth will usually tell you when something’s off, you just have to know what to look for.
An imbalanced oral microbiome can show up in all kinds of ways, like:
– Cavities that keep coming back, even when you brush and floss
– Gums that bleed easily or feel inflamed
– Chronic bad breath (no matter how much you brush)
– Tooth sensitivity that seems to be getting worse
– Plaque and tartar that build up quickly
– A dry mouth that makes it hard to feel fresh
– Frequent canker sores
– Even subtle things like changes in taste
Here’s exactly what I do every day for optimal oral health.
I start my mornings with oil pulling using GuruNanda CocoMint Mouthwash. This ancient practice helps draw out toxins, freshens breath, and creates a clean environment for good bacteria to flourish. Think of it as a gentle detox rinse that sets the tone for everything else.
Next, I floss with SuperTeeth Prebiotic Floss (use code DRCOURTNEY to save 15%). Traditional flossing removes food and plaque, but this one goes further by feeding the good bacteria in your mouth. It’s an easy upgrade that makes your microbiome stronger with every swipe.
Then it’s time to brush with SuperTeeth Toothpaste (use code DRCOURTNEY to save 15%). This toothpaste is designed to remineralize enamel while also supporting your oral microbiome. After brushing, I don’t rinse. That part is important, leaving the minerals and probiotics on your teeth gives them more time to work their magic.

I follow brushing with a quick tongue scrape using a copper tongue scraper. Your tongue is a hotspot for bacteria buildup, and scraping it not only freshens your breath but also prevents that bacteria from disrupting the balance of your oral microbiome. Copper is naturally antimicrobial, making it a great material for this practice.
Finally, I finish with a SuperTeeth Probiotic Mint (use code DRCOURTNEY to save 15%). It’s such a simple but powerful way to seed your mouth with beneficial bacteria throughout the day. I let it slowly dissolve and do its work while I move on with my morning.
Once I’ve gone through my oral care routine, I finish the day by mouth taping before bed. This helps me breathe through my nose while I sleep, which keeps my oral microbiome balanced and sets me up for deeper, more restorative rest. If you’re curious about why I mouth tape and how to get started, I wrote a whole blog about it here.
I get asked a lot about what this looks like for kids, because we all want to set our little ones up for strong, healthy teeth without the daily battle. The key is keeping it simple and making it something they actually enjoy. A clean toothpaste with safe ingredients, fun flavors, and a mild foam goes a long way. You can also swap in probiotic mints for kids instead of traditional mouthwash (my daughter thinks they’re a “treat” and loves them!). Starting these habits early teaches them that oral care doesn’t have to be a chore, it’s just part of taking care of the body God gave them.
This oral care routine isn’t just about avoiding cavities, it’s about creating the healthiest environment possible in your mouth. By focusing on remineralization and microbial balance, I’m supporting my teeth to naturally strengthen and repair themselves.
And the best part? It’s simple, repeatable, and feels like an act of care every single day.
